Arab American Male Identity Formation In Contemporary Literature By An Arab American Woman: Leila Halaby’s West Of The Jordan (2003).

Abstract
The present article mainly analyzes the identity formation of male characters in the novel West of the Jordan (2003) written by Leila Halaby. It examines the struggle of Arab American male protagonists to find a space for themselves within their families in the aftermath of the events of 9/11. This article makes a new inquiry in which it joins a literature written by women to the study of Arab American masculinities. To do so, it explores particularly the unsettlement of traditional manhoods placed in the metaphorical border between the Arab world and the United States, as well as the role of feminism in doing so. Leila Halaby’s West of the Jordan (2003) places Arab male characters in a diasporic setting in the United States and allows for a tracing of the construction of Arab masculinity in the post-9/11 United States. يحلّل هذا المقال بشكل أساسي تشكيل هوية الشخصيات الذكورية في رواية "غرب الأردن" (2003) التي كتبتها ليلى حلبي. يدرس كفاح أبطال العرب الأمريكيين لإيجاد مساحة لأنفسهم داخل عائلاتهم في أعقاب أحداث 11 سبتمبر. تقدم هذه المقالة اِستفسارًا جديدًا حيث تضم فيه أدبيات كتبتها نساء إلى دراسة الذكورية العربية الأمريكية. للقيام بذلك،هذا المقال يستكشف بشكل خاص عدم اِستقرار الرجولة التقليدية الموضوعة على الحدود المجازية بين العالم العربي والولايات المتحدة، فضلاً عن دور النسوية في القيام بذلك. تضع رواية "غرب الأردن" ليلى حلبي (2003) الشخصيات العربية الذكورية في بيئة الشتات في الولايات المتحدة وتسمح بتتبع بناء الذكورة العربية في الولايات المتحدة بعد 11 سبتمبر. Le présent article analyse principalement la formation identitaire des personnages masculins dans le roman West of the Jordan (2003) écrit par Leila Halaby. Il examine la lutte des protagonistes Arabes Américains pour trouver un espace pour eux-mêmes au sein de leurs familles à la suite des événements du 11 Septembre. Cet article fait une nouvelle enquête dans laquelle il rejoint une littérature écrite par les femmes à l’étude des masculinités Arabo-Américaines. Pour ce faire, il explore en particulier l’inettlement des virilités traditionnelles placées dans la frontière métaphorique entre le monde arabe et les États-Unis, ainsi que le rôle du féminisme dans ce processus. West of the Jordan (2003) de Leila Halaby place les personnages masculins Arabes dans un cadre diasporique aux États-Unis et permet de retracer la construction de la masculinité Arabe aux États-Unis après le 11 Septembre.
