Authors : Houti Yamina .

Abstract

One of the most important skills people can embrace in daily life is the ability to negotiate. In the world of business, negotiating skills are used for a variety of reasons such as negotiating a project, a contract, a salary or even making a sale. Literally, business negotiation; be it a business speaking skill, requires mastery of linguistic skills since they intervene as an important component for the ongoing of the negotiation process. And, because business English is the lingua franca for business transactions in the world of business, effective skills to negotiate projects in English are essential for success on the private individual level as well as the corporate one. Thus, studies on the English users’ needs to develop these skills are given importance in the field of ESP in general and BE in particular. With the intent to explore the use of English in the context of business negotiation and for pedagogical considerations, the present paper summarizes the state of the art of research and theory in business negotiation language studies addressed from a linguistic standpoint; a part from our research work on the significance of language skills development for the purpose of an ESBP course design fitting professional needs and aiming to improve Algerian job- experienced users of English company managers and executives’ negotiating skills.
